This looks like a good one other than the standards on pushups. Gonna be a little bit difficult to judge “no snaking.”
Agree that will be the biggest point of contention. However, I think it won’t actually be too hard to judge, but when accurately judged I don’t think the competitor is going to like it very much starting about round 3. Judges, prepare to make some friends this week.
Agreed. It will be emotionally hard not too technically hard.
Well put.
You guys are right on with all of your points/comments. Push-ups and box jumps are difficult to judge. We have to make the standard as objective as possible and hold everyone to it. The down side is that we are depending on everyone else in the world to hold that same standard.
Little surprised that they choose to do another AMRAP. Yeah Hudson, push up judging could be difficult. I’ll have to check out the workout instructional video to see if they go into more detail on the movements. Box jumps could be another difficult movement to judge depending on if they make you land both feet completely on top of the box or not.
If a glitch in the Games website revealed what I think it revealed, then it will be 4 AMRAPS or otherwise rep/load scored events and 2 time scored events. Wasn’t able to tell anything else about the WODs, but at one point I saw zeroes filled in for someone or something and that was the pattern. I think Week 3 was another AMRAP or load scored event, 4 and 5 were time scored, and 6 was AMRAP or load scored.
Just shooting in the dark.
A huge thanks to all of those who have offered to judge these sectionals.
Thanks Melissa and Jeff for pushing me this morning so I could get off on my trip without having to worry about the WOD. Good luck to all of the competitors this weekend.
So proud of you!!
Is it just me….does it seem that Paige is worming some of those pushups in the video??
Sorry!! I am not trying to be an a** about it…they are SUPER hard to judge. Judged for Michelle this morning…they are no fun.
Melissa, she is worming the hell out of her pushups. It’s really disappointing that Budding counted all those reps as legit in the WOD demo video.
Had 8 motivated athletes this morning who all took on a tough pushup standard and did really well with it. Jonathan breezed through this one pretty quickly.
Congrats to Michelle for continuing to trudge on despite difficulty in getting the pushups right. I’m also proud of Melissa for being a fair judge and calling all those difficult no-reps. Michelle also responded like a champion, taking the onus on herself to just keep trying until she did it right, never putting the blame on her judge, and she succeeded. Melissa and Michelle gave an excellent display of what competition should be from both perspectives.
BTW, don’t forget that you have to double up spring collars on the ladies’ bars to make them a legit 35 lbs. We weighed in the bars and two sets of spring collars brings them to just over 35 lbs. It also appears that a male bar with one set of collars is acceptable (from the standards video).
I had to scale the workout some, but ended up at 11 rounds.
I think the deadlift was around 120lbs, and the bench jump was 18″.
Why’d you have to scale it?
We’re in Vegas, so I was working out in a hotel gym.
Vegas hasn’t been kind. I’ve gained 5lbs!
Are there going to be a judges meetings today and tomorrow for the week 2 WOD?
Alex,
Yes there will be a judges meeting tonight and tomorrow night both at 7:30. All judges should attend one of the meetings.
I was craving some crossfit during my hiatus. This was a great one to get going again. Thanks for the encouragement Jeff, and the great explaination of pretzels with butter / carbs with fats.

8+13 back home.
5rnds + 9 DL, Rx’d. I spent entirely too much time at the box jump t rying to catch my breath.
7 rounds rx’d. Tried to feel this one out w/o going balls to the wall, but felt pretty torched afterwards. I wonder what Saturday will bring going 100%. Yikes.
6+15 Rx @ 70% intensity. Box jumps are going to stomp me Saturday.
Enjoyed this WOD (not while performing it of course :-D). Did Rx’d reps, GHD push-ups, and 16″ box jumps. Got 5 rds +8 DL’s.
7rounds+31 Rx
4 Rounds + 9 DL’s and 2 pushups. I was about 80% here so this makes me feel a little better with my performance. Thought that the pushups would give me trouble still only 7 months out from shoulder surgery- but I surprised myself. Need to watch the snaking though. :/
Thanks Jordan for sharing your box with me, I kept your tempo on the box jumps and it kicked my rear.
8 rounds + 9 reps.
Good job on those box jumps Lindsay! I started out going pretty hard for about 4 min then backed off. I picked it back up towards the end. I figured out how to break up the push-ups when I start getting tired, 6, 3 and 3 worked well for me. That’s the only thing I went to failure on.
7 rounds + 21 reps at maybe about 80%.
