From the Desk of the Gorilla:
49ers, Fitness, and Why the Best Train Here
Ever stop and wonder how this many incredible people ended up in the same place?
I do. All the damn time.
It’s wild when you think about it—how so many strong, smart, driven humans all landed here at CrossFit Impulse to train, grow, and do life together. And while it might feel like luck, it’s not.
This didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of 16 years of steady work by the CFI leadership team—Jeff, Christina, myself, and every coach who’s ever poured into this place. We’ve been tin-panning like the old 49ers (not the football team, they suck), sifting through thousands of athletes over the years. Piece by piece, we’ve built something rare; a real tribe. A gym full of people who show up for the work, for each other, and for their lives outside these walls. It’s a beautiful thing, this thing of ours.
That’s why I stand by it when I say: THE BEST TRAIN HERE.
And I’ll back that up.
Quantify it: If you’ve trained here for a year or more, odds are you’re far ahead of your peer group—in fitness, sure, but also in life. I see it every day. You’re getting promoted, raising strong families, managing real challenges, and showing up for what matters. The people in this gym are quietly putting in the work to be better in every direction.
Qualify it: We’ve got every level of athlete here—from folks just learning how to move well to athletes stacking elite-level reps, the common thread is progress. People here don’t coast. They build. Week by week. Year by year. That mindset—the willingness to keep showing up and keep improving—is what defines this tribe.
So when I say “the best,” I’m not throwing out a slogan. I’m describing a reality we’ve built together—one rep, one person, one day at a time.
We’ve been tin-panning for 16 years. And this… this is the gold.

The Iron Pen
May is here, and so is our traditional Memorial Day Murph — happening Monday May
26th.
Whether you’re a seasoned CrossFitter or brand new, I encourage you to show up,
scale as needed, and experience one of the most iconic workouts in the CrossFit
universe. You don’t have to do the Rx version — or anything close to it. Just do
something tough that challenges you. Put your first Murph in the books. You’ll never
forget it.
If this is your next Murph, not your first — congratulations.
You’re now part of one of CrossFit’s longest-running, most revered traditions. I know
scheduling on Memorial Day Weekend is tough — I get it. But if you can swing it, plan to
join us at the 8 a.m. class on Memorial Day proper. The tribe shows up big for this one.
It’s a huge class. We figure it out together. And you’ll never forget it.
Heads-up: Murph will replace our usual back squat cycle that week.
But fear not — squats return the following Monday. For June, I’m working on a new
Thursday series called “Summer Pump” — a full-body, moderate-load workout designed
to crank up the hypertrophy, boost the mood, and make you look good in that bitchin’
summer tank.
Summer Pump is much like our recent Bodybuilding Saturday series, but I’m using what
I learned to design it for even better class flow.
We’ll use movements you know and love, and everything will be time-based (e.g., 20
seconds on, 40 seconds off). No pressure to race the clock — just work hard, rest
smart, and keep the good vibes rolling.
Each workout will have a planned logistics layout: only one barbell movement, only one
kettlebell movement, only one dumbbell movement. No equipment chaos. No traffic
jams. Just that good pump.
Then it’s back to business with a new bench press cycle.
Strong shoulders never go out of style. It takes about a decade of consistent work to
build them, so we gotta keep moving that direction. But I do want to give a respite from
the heavy overhead work in our recent jerk series.
The House of Gains is growing.
New faces are everywhere. Say hi. Make a friend. Ask if they want to see your Lego
collection.
I’m looking forward to throwing down with all of you — day after day, week after week
through another sweaty, savage, sunshine-filled summer.
Jeff
