Welcome Back!!

We’re thrilled to welcome back two families to the glorious House of Gainz! The Trippetts (Tripps for short) are back from Florida and Jaylee and Kinsley have grown like weeds! Whatever they are feeding them we need some shared around!

And we welcome Andrew and Nicole Craft back into the fold! The Braves are winning… what a time to be alive!!

Fun fact: Andrew and Nicole actually met here at CFI, and Andrew proposed to Nicole right here in the HOG! I’m not sure but I’m fairly confident that was a PR for the gym that has yet to be matched, if it’s been matched I musta missed it.. somebody clue me in… anyone? Bueller…. Bueller…. nobody gets my jokes.

Notes from the Programmer We’re kicking off a front squat cycle on Mondays starting next week. Paired with Zercher carries and Lunges, alternating each week… should be spicy enough for some serious glute and hammy activation. We gonna fill out some Jorts right proper this summer!

I said it once, I’ll say it again, big shout out to everyone who crushed the pull up cycle. We are bringing back a streamlined four week version in the fall, yes we will continue to do pull ups, yes they are good for you. If you are still climbing towards the next level of patch… why wait? The pull up program is posted on the wall. Come in ten minutes early for class, and get that extra pulling work in anytime. We will run the hill sprint cycle back this month, damn that was a good time last year! Got some really neat conditioning pieces plucked from various sources, a few really spicy .COM workouts, Isabel.. NGL, I’m pretty pleased with how this month shaped out.

Cosigning on negativity is a big time no no.

“Don’t be overheard complaining…not even to yourself.” — Marcus Aurelius

I’ve noticed something I don’t like, in myself or anyone else… just how easy it is to pile on negativity. It usually starts with a negative comment, 2-3 people chime in…next thing you know, the freggin sky is falling and life’s pretty miserable. Where I’m from, we call this “Cosigning” and I really hate it. Hates a strong word, maybe I dislike it intensely. All I know is it grinds my gears, both when I catch myself in it, or when I hear it.

There’s a really good book called “Radical Inclusion” by General Dempsey, former chairmen of the joint chiefs of staff that has a fantastic tie in here, a phenomenon he calls “the digitial echo”. I’ll save you the read, the bottom line: Incidents, feelings, and facts get exaggerated as more voices get involved. Think about the game of telephone you may have played as a kid, it’s not the exact same thing but strikingly similar. Many takeaways from the book (link here https://www.amazon.com/Radical-Inclusion-Post-9-Should-Leadership/dp/1939714109) but that was the biggest one I took from it.

Negative energy compounds fast. Positive energy takes three times the effort for half the return. We have to work hard to be positive, both for ourselves, and for everyone around us. If you think you can’t do something, and 3 other people cosign, I bet you dollars to donuts you are indeed correct, you can’t. Well, I’m not into Can’t, I’m an AmeriCAN baby, not an AmeriCANT!

Don’t let folks in a pit of misery pull you down with them. “Misery loves company” may be the most accurate statement ever made.

Conversely, Don’t push them further in. Be the person who lifts others up instead. You never know, you might be the only voice of positive in a sea of negativity. One thing I can promise, if you come to me with negative Juju… I’m help you turn that ship right around. There’s goodness to be found in every situation, I got a compass and a map, holla at a playa, I’ll help you find it.
